In Fujairah I let people choose their own activities for the day instead of organizing a tour for the group. Vaughn, Mother and Twila, as previously detailed, met a gal from Montana and visited a school for girls. Several of the rest of us took a taxi into town and walked through the souk (market). Chloe bargained and bought two carpets, and we took group photos with shopkeepers who thoroughly enjoyed being photographed with American and Swiss women! I found an internet café and the rest of them took off sightseeing for a couple hours. We met again at 1:00 p.m. at the Al Meshwar Restaurant for lunch. It is a typical Arab restaurant and we ordered a variety of local foods and shared them. It was delicious food and the atmosphere in the restaurant was delightful. Many of the locals were smoking the typical water pipe and one Sheikh let me take his photo smoking, with Franzi sitting next to him. Nice.
Back at the port Twila and I looked around a couple shops before taking the shuttle into the port itself to the ship. When we were ready for the shuttle there was no bus there, but a young fellow from the local tour company noticed us standing there and gave us a ride to the ship. Just another example of the local hospitality.
